When things don’t go right

WinExtra Well that has been a couple of days that I don’t want to repeat anytime soon; but I guess if it is going to happen better it be during the early period of a blog than later when it has garnered a real following.

As it turns out my earlier post about site downtime being over and done with was slightly on the presumptive side. Much to my dismay the dreaded hosting resource hog problem came back to haunt me which led to people seeing those Account Suspended pages again. It turns out though that WinExtra along with three other customer sites were among the top 3 on that particular hosting server for getting bit by this monster.

Now I imagine that the team at VistaPages could have just as easily thrown up their hands and left it to me to figure out what was wrong which is what my previous host had done under similar circumstances but they didn’t. What they did do was move us black sheep :) over to a VPS setup but that meant all new DNS addresses that then had to be propagated once everything was to the support team’s satisfaction.

What I wasn’t counting on was the length of time that it took for those addresses to make it through the system. I don’t know if it is because Canadian hosting companies are further down the pipeline or what but it wasn’t until early morning that WinExtra finally made it back to the world of the living.

Everything now though seems to be back to normal - maybe even a little snappier with much thanks to Peter and the support team at VistaPages. Hopefully now with the new setup things will be stabilized. Now though it is time to get some more coffee into me and get back to the work of blogging.
