Stop this idea before it even starts

Who even thinks this is a good idea Perception is 99% of everything. How we perceive people within the first five seconds formulates what we thing of them for pretty well the rest of any relationship that might; or might not, develop.

Whoever first sets the tone of a conversation is often the winner of any debates that might follow.

These two things are simple facts of life - get out there first, make it look like your idea and then you own the concept and conversation. This is something that big business has learned and uses everyday in order to win over consumers; even though we might know better.

So a simple term like The Blog Council to the average reader of blogs gives the impression that this council is the last say in what or how the blogosphere in general behaves or conducts itself. The problem is that as cool as the idea of something called The Blog Council might sound it belays the fact that this council isn’t made up of your run of the mill bloggers. Nor is is made up of even the dreaded A-List of bloggers which as bad an idea that might be it doesn’t even come close to who is really behind this new voice of the blogosphere.

In fact as being reported by both ParisLemon and Mark ‘Rizzn’ Hopkins (late addition Professional Blogging News) this Blog Council is being put together by the very corporations we all find ourselves writing about so often. Unlike Mark though I don’t think this is being done out of fear of a strange new world. No .. this is being done so that in the minds of the average reader they will become the official voice of the blogosphere hence the seemingly bland name of The Blog Council.

By using such an innocuous name these corporate bloggers; who become nothing more that PR flacks, give the illusion that they are of the same ilk as bloggers like ParisLemon or Mark ‘Rizzn’ Hopkins and that the message they send out can be trusted in the same way that we can trust bloggers like webomatica, mini-microsoft or even Robert Scoble. In the ignoble tradition of FUD this Blog Council only seeks to muddy the water of who can be trusted and who cannot.

In my opinion this idea should be taken immediately out behind the woodshed and shot - simple as that …
