Fed up with cleaning up after software

Oct 13th, 2007 | By Steven Hodson | Category: Technology

Clean up time Like a lot of people I know I am a software junkie. I love trying out software some of which I use and others that either immediately hit the recycle bin or end up there after realizing I don’t use it anymore.

It never fails though that through this process of feeding my habit my hard drive and registry becomes littered with folders, files and settings that just aren’t needed anymore. Therein lies the problem and one that shouldn’t even happen if developer’s took the time to properly cleanup after their programs are uninstalled.

As it is right now; and not even counting any registry settings which is a scary thought in itself, there are 11 folders (not counting the sub folders below them) of programs that I have uninstalled for whatever reason. Granted some folks might think that I’m being overly anal about this neatness thing but the fact is these folders and any files in them are just garbage that don’t need to be there.

So here’s a thought - how about making sure your programs clean up after themselves when uninstalled. It isn’t that hard to do as any good install/uninstall program will let you do it if you care to. It’s not my job as a user to spend my time getting out the broom to sweep up your mess.
