As pointed out by Long Zheng today the previously announced deadline for the release of the Vista language packs and an improved DreamScene’s has come and gone with nothing being made available.
Like Long I am further convinced that the Ultimate’s team is either grossly incapable of delivering anything on a promised timetable or Microsoft doesn’t give shit about the people who bought into the hype lock stock and barrel.
I have written previously about my feelings about Vista Ultimate and how is not worth the money and that folks should not even bother with. That view point has not changed with maybe the exception of being an even strong opinion.
I have even reached a point where I even question the need for the average computer user to *cough* upgrade *cough* from XP. After all with Service Pack 2 installed XP is a rock solid platform with plenty of non Microsoft support available for it. Even most of the features that are suppose to be the groundwork on which Vista is suppose to deliver the goods has been made available for XP - using the .NET Framework for example.
Of course the big drawing card for Vista was the user interface but even that with the installation of the upcoming release of WindowBlinds 6 the Aero look is easily added to XP. It would be interesting I think to see a list of other 3rd party programs or utilities out there that are Vista like equals for XP.
With Microsoft now allowing OEMs to revert back to install XP as the OS on new machines I am torn on whether I would even recommend moving up to Vista at this point. This may all change when Service Pack 1 for Vista hits the shelves but for now I can only stick with suggesting you stay far away from the Vista Ultimate Edition as that will only drain you wallet for nothing in return.
