While Jason at webomatica feels that this incessant drive to reach the top of the income pile of Silicon Valley; as depicted in articles by NYT and BloggingStocks, is more indicative of the looming bubble I only have one thing to say to the bubble inhabitants - Quit yer gawd damn whining.
In a society where these whiners make up the top 10% or less the fact that they feel they are less than nothing because they only have $10 million in the bank doesn’t make me feel sorry for them.
The fact that they feel driven to 70 hour work weeks because their cash flow is dipping into the $5 million range doesn’t make me any more sympathetic for their ..cough.. plight.
Just because they feel less than adequate because they have to upgrade to a $1 million plus home while we still have people living in cardboard boxes or on the verge of being evicted because electricity costs more than they make doesn’t endear me to them any more.
The fact is that all these Web 2.0 sell-outs are for obscene amounts of money. More money than any real person would ever need in a lifetime to live a good balanced life. Sure there is nothing wrong with a good healthy drive to succeed or to be famous - I’m all for it and would have loved to have achieved something like that - but let’s get real here … just how many hundreds of millions does any one person need. Especially since none of these bubble millionaires appear to do anything of use with these fortunes other than buy bigger homes and more expensive bottles of wine.
Maybe you bubblites need to realize as you sip on your Starbucks’ lattes and surf on the free WiFi that there are real people out there living real lives of robbing Peter to pay Paul and hoping for a better tomorrow - all while you whine about not being rich enough.
BTW if you want to ease your social conscience and brag about helping some-one less fortunate (fat chance) here’s a link to help out an old fart.
