In a blog post that probably took longer to write that his business plan for Truemors; oh wait he didn’t have a business plan (See Step 1), Guy Kawasaki has shown how much of an empty shell Web 2.0 really is.
As Mathew Ingram wrote today
But what really bugs me is that I?m not sure Guy has created anything at all ? at least not anything of value ? and therefore the entire thrust of his post is completely undermined. What he should really be saying is ?How I Wasted $12,107 On a Site That Serves No Purpose.?
From a secret project that had the tech b’sphere panting with anticipation just because it had Guy’s name attached to it we got nothing more than an example of another stupid idea taking up bandwidth. While he seems to be proud of the fact that there was no VC money involved with the project (See Step 2) the truth of the matter is that regardless of how some VC investment may be off the wall this one probably would have been left stillborn in the VC waiting room; or as Adario Strange from wired.com puts it
Chief among the revelations offered by Kawasaki is the fact that he never wrote a business plan. Shock! Actually it?s not shocking at all, it was pretty obvious from day one. And I?d wager that if an entrepreneur tried to get Kawasaki?s VC attention and revealed he didn?t have a business plan, Kawasaki would probably laugh the person out of his office.
As bad as an idea as Truemors might have been this follow-up post by Guy has in my opinion done more to damage the idea of Web 2.0 businesses being a valid real world business model that anything else; not to mention his reputation as a go to person for bringing Web 2.0 businesses to life.
