We all get those days where things seem to keep piling up and piling up ? in other words a full plate day. Well today is one of those days for me and I haven?t even reached the botom of my first pot of coffee. Mind you this all started late last night with the release of the new version of Windows Live Writer ? my favorite blogging tool.
Needless to say I was right there downloading my copy with anticipation of having a new version to play with only to find myself unable to ceate the blog accounts after installing the new version. While I was attempting to figure out what the problem was I started seeing some reports of how nice this new version was which only added to my frustration. I mentioned the problem I was experiencing in a comment to a post on Greg?s Cool [Insert Clever Name] of the Day and then went back to trying to sort out the problem.
Much to my surprise I got an email pretty well within the hours after posting the comment from Joe Cheng; one of the developers on the WLW team, asking what the problem was. In an email exchange between then and now he has been doing his best to try and track down the problem just incase it has something to do with WLW.
During this time I have tried a total of three different blogging clients; including the previous version of WLW, of which only ecto could connect and retrieve the blog info but failed when trying to post. I have upgraded my install of WordPress to the newest 2.2 version, run all the AV and spyware scan - just incase. Everything else about the site worked fine it was just connecting to the darn xmlrpc.php file that seem to be the problem. I even filed a trouble ticket with my host ? which has proven to be as useful as one would expect.
Then all of a sudden late last night/early this morning BlogJet was able to connect and post but it was; and still is, a no go with WLW. Through all this the emails have been going between myself and Joe Cheng as he continues to troubleshoot from his end. So my hat; and a great big thanks, goes out to Joe for his conitued efforts above and beyond the call of duty.
But now you?ll ahve to excuse me as I have a lunch to get ready for my grandson, prep for a review of the Telerik component suite for .NET developers for over on Hodson Report and see if we can finally sort out this WLW problem; which might also result in a review comparing a few blogging clients.
Update: Well with Joe’s help we tracked down the problem and it had to do with the Bad Behavior plugin for WordPress. with it deactivated all my WLW posting goodness has returned.
Thanks Joe.
